“Young Elders”
Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe
Tropical Print
This bright, vivid tropical print captures a beautiful Tropical Hawaiian
sunset with a sublime, almost ghostly, Hawaiian outrigger crew in the distance. Shaw paints a peaceful
scene, rich with vibrant colors. Inspired by his personal love for canoeing and watching Hawaiian
outrigger crews off the coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, Shaw appreciates and admires the Hawaiian cultural significance of this activity.
He paints
a misty, transparent, outrigger and crew to convey the feeling of Hawaiian elder spirits
revisiting the same coastline they may have paddled in their youthful prime. Shaw wanted to paint the outrigger and
crew at such a size, position and distance as to cause the eye to focus on the sunset, yet allow
the outrigger to “fade in or out” (such as apparitions are said to do) as
the eye sweeps the painting. Instead of the outrigger art image dominating the entire tropical print,
it is portrayed simply as a subtle component of nature, much like any of the waves in the surf. This painting
pays tribute to the Hawaiian traditions of old and the Hawaiian lifestyle of today.
The original
is 30”x48” oil on canvas. It was digitally replicated in high definition. The image is then sprayed
onto fine art canvas and paper during the Giclee (pronounced, “gee-clay”)
print process. This makes for a very remarkable print quality, which is hard to tell from the original. These
tropical fine art prints are available in the full-sized 30x48 signed, limited edition Giclees
on canvas as well as other smaller sizes.
Matted and tropical prints are available for fine
art Giclees on paper as shown. The larger sizes are available as framed tropical
prints with canvas floater frames. Please call Neil Shaw Collection to inquire.
